Whale watching
In the Bay of Samaná you can watch humpback whales from January till the end of March. Every winter between 3'000 and 5'000 humpback wales leave the cold waters of Island, Greenland, Canada and the north of the USA to pass the wintertime in the Bay of Samaná where they mate and raise their calves.
Because the whales are curious and swim near the boats, there is a code of behaviour that the tourist guides must respect not to frighten and disturb the whales.
